The Museum of History in Tarnobrzeg

The Museum of History in Tarnobrzeg was created by the Society of the Tarnobrzeg’s Friends in 1991 and refers to a very beautiful tradition and collectibles of Counts Tarnowski.

The museum is located in a historic granary - a relic of the old farm in Wymysłow, which was a part of goods of Count Tarnowski. That one-floor, brick building with preserved original interior and beam ceilings was built in the late Classical style in 1843, according to the draft of the then owner of the dzikowskie goods, Count Jan Bogdan Tarnowski.

The exhibition presents the most important themes and events in the history of Tarnobrzeg and its surrounding area from the earliest times until the Second World War. In the prehistoric part there are presented fossils and relics of nature as well as the mammoth bones and stone and antler tools from the turn of the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras. Noteworthy there are also ornaments of horns and bones, as well as imported ornaments made of bronze. A large part of this section of the exhibition is a restored cemetery of the Tarnobrzeg group of the Lusatia culture and the unique in this area flaring grave. The monuments are complemented with the modern paintings depicting prehistoric typical works of prehistoric people. In the medieval period there are exhibited the dishes found in several places of the town.
