Żuraw Tower in Torun



Torun for ever was competing with Gdansk. The famous Crane of Gdansk has his equivalent in Torun. A little bit smaller, more inconspicuous, but it confirms the cities commercial functions. Thanks to that commerce Torun riched its  "golden ages".

The tower comes from the second half of the XIIIth century. It is situated in the municipal wall, in the west of the Brige Gates. Its name comes from the Crane's functions. After expansion in 1823 the tower was joined with the swedish granery, situated on the back, which let plainly using its function. From this period comes also all mechanisms.
