Klasztorna Gate



The name of this impressive Middle Ages building called also the Holy Spirit Gates comes from Benedictine Monastery and Holy Spirit Church.

The gate was built in gothic style in the first half of XIVth century. The enemy, to force this way to the town had a difficult task: firstly he had to beat a massive portcullis, with a gap to pour out boiling water on the conquerors heads ; the last obstacle was the solid gates additionally leaning crosswise bolts. Over the course of the years the gate lost its military meaning and in XIXth century began to serve the residential functions [Holy Spirit Road]
