The name comes from the trade with salt which was stored and traded here, imported from Drohobych and Wieliczka.
It is one of the two corresponding smaller markets in the transverse axis of the city, probably never did reach the ideal shape (50 x 50 m). This was from the beginning the marketplace. It had a diverse structure. The most interesting houses are located along the Zamenhofa Street. The corner house, decorated across its width with a below windows frieze with plant motives coming out of the pitcher draws special attention. In 1829, after the demolition of several houses, the drill ground was organized behind the town hall. Worth seeing because of the diversity of buildings and houses on the Zamenhofa Street.
