The gate’s design is referring to a triumphal arch in Saint Denis in Paris.
Built in years 1820-1821, designed by Jan Paweł Lelewel, the military engineer, the gate received a monumental neoclassical facade. After the abolition of the city shafts it became a free-standing building. The shape of the gate, with a semicircular tympanum refers to a triumphal arch in Saint Denis in Paris. In the tympanum there are the initials of Aleksander I, the Tsar of all Russia and the Polish king. Since the year 1980, the seat of the Polish Peasant Orchestra of Karol Namysłowski has been housed here.
