Shrouded in many legends, the building is the main symbol of Paczków, next to the city walls and the fortified Church.
The Hangman’s House is a building with a distinctive appearance, built using half-timbered wall method, standing near the market, just behind the Tower of Nysa. It was built in the 18th century, and is said to have been a home of the Paczków executioner and his family. It is further corroborated by its location near the cemetery and the first gallows. Legend has it that the hangman did not execute sentences in Paczków, as he would have been lynched by the locals.
Today, the Hangman’s House holds the Tourist Information Centre.
