On the Trail of the Jews of Cracow

The world which has gone by – the traces of which can still be found…. the synagogues, cemeteries, the places were blood was spilled in the name of the “final solution” – all this can be discovered following the trail of the Jews of Cracow.

In Cracow’s Kazimierz district, seven synagogues remain which include the Old Renaissance Synagogue where the Musuem of Judaism has been established. There is also the old Remuh cemetery adjacent to the Remuh Synagogue. Beyond the Vistula River in the former Jewish Ghetto, set up during the Second World War by the Germans, the Museum of National Remembrance “Apteka pod Orłem” (Chemist under the Eagle) is situated. Part of the old Ghetto wall is also preserved on the site. Not too far from here in Plaszow lies the site of the former German concentration camp as well as Shindler’s factory made famous by the Stephen Spielberg film.   More information: Centrum Kultury Żydowskiej (Fundacja Judaica), 31-058 Cracow, ul.
