Museum of Technology in Warsaw

A collection of valuable exhibits – achievements in technology, from unique cars and motorcycles to rockets and cipher machines

The Museum of Technology is based in the Palace of Culture and Science and has over a dozen halls with permanent displays and regularly organises short-term exhibitions. It has a rich tradition dating back to the 19th century. It is linked closely with Museum of Industry and Agriculture, established in 1875 which played a significant role in the culture, learning, technology and even in the economic life of contemporary Poland.

In over 50 years of post-war activities the Museum of Technology has accumulated valuable exhibits covering many different fields of technology. There is an impressive collection of old motorcycles, cars and bicycles. The astronautics exhibit has models of the spacecraft Sputnik1, Sputnik 2, and Vostok 1, of crew compartments of the Apollo and the Gemini rockets and of the space shuttle Columbia.

There is also the German Enigma machine, with information on how this cipher was broken by Polish mathematicians and the Fotoplastikon – an exhibit from the end of the 19th century with slides depicting advances in technology and material culture in Poland. There is a model of a coal mine shaft and a “Ciekawy Fizik” room where visitors can perform various experiments.
