Lighthouse in Gaski

A beautiful lighthouse which has also been opened to tourists as a viewing platform

It is situated about 100m from the sea next to the road between Ustronie Morskie and Mielno. Building began in 1876 and was completed nearly two years later. It is built from red brick and stands on an octagonal pedestal of a diameter of 11.2m. The total height of the tower is 41.2m with the light at a height of 50.1m above sea level. Originally it was fitted with a Fresnel lens with the light source provided by kerosene lamps. The intermittent beam was achieved by three screens rotated by a clock mechanism. In 1927 the kerosene lamps were replaced by electric ones. In 1948, after the last war, the lighthouse was reactivated and the clock mechanism was replaced by an electric motor, and the rotation frequency changed from 12 to 15 seconds. The current range of the light is around 43.5km. The lighthouse is open to the public with Its top reached by a winding staircase. From here there are panoramic views of the Baltic Sea and as far as Sarbinowo, Chlopy, Mielno and Uniescie. At the base of the tower is the lighthouse keeper’s cottage with kiosks selling souvenirs and pretty landscaped gardens.
